Korean skincare has a reputation for ten-step routines, but the philosophy behind it is simpler than that: treat skin gently, layer lightweight products in a sensible order, hydrate generously and protect every single day. Here is the four-step version we recommend, built around Clabiane.
Step 1: Cleanse
A good cleanse removes SPF, make-up and the day's grime without leaving skin tight. Look for a low-pH, soap-free formula. Massage onto damp skin for 30 to 60 seconds, then rinse with lukewarm water.
Our pick: Clabiane Foam Cleanser, an amino-acid foam balanced at pH 5.5.
Step 2: Treat
This is where concentrated actives do their work. Ampoules and serums go on clean skin, before anything heavier. Press, rather than rub, a small amount into the face and neck.
Our picks: Lavjue Serum for lines and firmness, or Acu Derm Cream for blemish-prone areas.
Step 3: Hydrate and restore
Hydration is the heart of Korean skincare. Two or three times a week, swap your usual moisturising step for a sheet mask: twenty minutes, then pat the remaining essence in.
Our pick: Clabiane Vacation Face Masks.
Step 4: Protect
Daily SPF is the step that protects all the others. Apply generously each morning as the last step of your routine, and reapply when you are outdoors for long periods.
Our pick: Clabiane SPF 50 Daily Shield, a lightweight fluid with no white cast.
Where do at-home devices fit?
Devices such as Liften HIFU and the Oligio radiofrequency device are used on clean, dry skin with their conductive gel, usually a few evenings a week. Cleanse first, use the device, remove the gel, then continue from Step 2. Always follow the instructions supplied with your device.
