The Korean Skincare Routine, Simplified
If you have ever been put off Korean skincare by talk of ten-step routines, here is the good news: the principles matter far more than the number of products. A considered routine of four steps, done consistently, is where most people see the difference.
1. Be gentle first
Korean skincare starts from the idea that a calm, intact skin barrier performs better. That means a low-pH, soap-free cleanser rather than anything that leaves skin squeaky or tight.
2. Layer thin to thick
Apply watery textures first and richer ones last, so each layer can sink in. Concentrated ampoules and serums go straight onto clean skin.
3. Hydrate generously
Hydrated skin looks plumper, smoother and more luminous. Ingredients such as multi-weight hyaluronic acid and γ-PGA draw in water; a sheet mask a few times a week gives an extra boost.
4. Protect every day
Daily SPF, even in a British winter, is the single most effective step for keeping skin looking even and youthful.
